Going beyond the classroom to transform college education.
At the Academy, education extends beyond the classroom in many ways. From micro-lectures to international study tours, CurriculumPlus offers students unconventional learning experiences that not only allow them to tailor their education to an unprecedented level, but to explore the places where innovation is happening, wherever it’s happening.
The mainstays of CurriculumPlus are the Responsive Learning Modules. Developed to complement Academy coursework, RLM sessions augment students’ classroom education and meet their individualized needs by providing them with critical learning opportunities, but without the full infrastructure of a semester-long course. As a result, RLMs are diverse enough to respond to a wide variety of student interests, and flexible enough to deliver each subject in the most useful and relevant way.
RLM sessions range in length from a few hours to a few weeks and can take many different shapes to suit the material.
Opportunities you can't get anywhere else.
Not all CurriculumPlus education takes place on campus: Academy field trips take advantage of the city of Los Angeles as an educational playground, touring the heart of the city and meeting the people who make it beat. In a town that merges arts and technology like no other—from interactive media startups to established tech giants—these field trips allow students to encounter the people and places that are changing the world right now.
The Academy’s study tours take students beyond city limits to see creativity at work around the world. Students travel as a cohort on trips to national and international locations critical to the business of innovation. Whether getting a behind the scenes look at the Tate Modern in London, or touring Silicon Valley to experience the lifecycle of a startup, or experiencing the design and manufacturing culture of Shenzhen, China, these faculty-led trips encourage students to reflect and react on how entrepreneurs and institutions apply the principles that the Academy fosters in the classroom.
