Iovine and Young Academy Students Win Adidas Global Competition

A multigenerational team of eight Academy students, freshmen through graduate, was one of four teams selected internationally to be given the opportunity to co-create an experiential marketing activation for an adidas signature shoe, the Copa.

Four student teams from London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles participated in the competition, with the Academy emerging as the winning team. Our students, along with faculty advisor Grant Delgatty, worked tirelessly for seven weeks to design, prototype and build an immersive retail experience that captured the passion of LA soccer communities for the adidas brand. The team collaborated with a youth soccer team, LA's Tango Squad, and adidas to create an authentic campaign that was then presented to adidas executives for final judging.

The grand prize included a live installation of the students' prototype at iconic LA soccer store Niky's Sports, with tremendous support from LA's largest soccer fan club, The 3252, and the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) professional soccer team. Academy students were then flown to Germany for a five-day celebration at adidas HQ. The trip included special events, workshops, tours and a speaker series which celebrated Academy students and UEFA footballer, David Alaba.
