The USC Iovine and Young Academy was founded in 2013 through a visionary gift through entrepreneurs and by Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young.

The Academy provides a unique learning experience that prepares students to think critically, create, and innovate across industries. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Arts, Technology and Business of Innovation, a joint Bachelor of Science in Business of Innovation with USC Marshall, and a Master of Science in Integrated Design, Business and Technology. Students are placed in technology development, business strategy and product innovation positions upon graduation, and many of our graduates successfully commercialize their own startups before they even graduate.

Jimmy Iovine

Jimmy Iovine is regarded as both a legendary figure in the music industry as well as a forward-thinking visionary. Iovine, along with hip hop pioneer Dr. Dre, is the co-founder and CEO of Beats Electronics (Beats) and Beats Music, which were both purchased in 2014.

Andre Young, also known as Dr. Dre, was born in Compton, California, and began his career as a DJ in clubs around Compton and South Central Los Angeles. He cofounded N.W.A., which illustrated life in South Central with the album Straight Outta Compton.

Academy majors and minors work and learn side-by-side with majors from other schools at USC in the Academy’s new main facility, Iovine and Young Hall.
