Welcome Experience 2023 Gives Admitted Students an Immersive Look at IYA

April 5, 2023

April 1, 2023 marked a momentous occasion at USC Iovine and Young Academy, offering admitted students the chance to discover what IYA is truly all about. From Dean Thanassis Rikakis’ welcoming words to an illuminating student panel and a mixer, IYA’s welcome event for newly admitted students showcased the school’s learning environment, classes, and state-of-the-art facilities, allowing potential future students the time to get to know one another, faculty, staff, and current students.

In addition to a lively conversation featuring IYA students discussing their professional and entrepreneurial opportunities, micro-learning sessions were extended that highlighted IYA’s intersectional approach to tech, business, design, and culture. The Ins and Outs of Interactivity was just one of the workshops presented, as well as the hands-on activity-filled Design Strategy In Action. Willy Wonka’s Candy Land exhibited how “IYA students use immersive mediums to reimagine fiction and fond memories,” while Super Random looked at the connections between randomness and innovation. There was even an Entrepreneurial Stroll with Professor Matthew Manos exploring USC’s campus through prompts set to inspire the design of a product concept.

Delving into everything from laser analytics to human-centered design methods to fundamentals of physical computing, the day was chock full of illuminating experiences that capture IYA’s unique framework and forward-thinking spirit.
