Co-Founder of the USC Iovine and Young Academy

Andre Young (Dr. Dre) is co-founder of the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. He is an eight-time Grammy award-winning artist, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Additionally, he is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and co-founder of Beats Electronics.

In 2013, the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California was funded and established, thanks to a $70 million donation from the pair. 

In 2022, they expanded their efforts to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), opening the Iovine and Young Center Integrated Design, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (IDTE) Magnet. In 2024, the Iovine and Young Center at Frederick Douglass High School will open in Atlanta. The high schools offer students grounding in the same cutting-edge curriculum as the USC Academy.

Young began his career as a World Class Wreckin’ Cru member. Shortly after, he co-founded the revolutionary group N.W.A. The Compton, California, native embarked on his solo career in 1992 when he released his debut album “The Chronic.” Certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), it reached the top 10 on Billboard 200. He won a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance (“Let Me Ride”) in 1993.

Young launched Aftermath Entertainment in 1996, discovering hip-hop superstars, such as Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and Eminem.

Jimmy Iovine and Young established Beats Electronics in 2006 and later launched Beats Music. Apple acquired both in 2014. 

Young has won a Grammy and an Emmy for the HBO docuseries “The Defiant Ones.” “The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent” took home three Emmys. 

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Young was the recipient of the inaugural Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.
