IYH Facility Policies 2024-25
The following rules are not intended to cover all instances or be all-inclusive. Other rules (specific to programs) may apply and shall be considered binding to all participants. Academy Students must read, sign, and acknowledge the Academy Facilities Handbook. USC Iovine and Young Academy reserves the right to change or amend these policies as deemed necessary for the safety and functionality of all academic activities. Compliance with USC Iovine and Young Academy staff is expected at all times. Failure to comply with staff and interpreted policies may result in losing of Academy access.
Food and Beverages
- Individual student food is not allowed in Academy classrooms, studios, labs, or student conference rooms.
- Water, coffee, and tea are allowed in Academy spaces, except the IYH Extended Reality (XR) Lab.
- Students may have food in the Student Lounge, IYH Lobby, and IYH Outdoor Terrace.
Skateboards, Bikes, Scooters, etc.
- Skateboards, bikes, motorized or personal transportation devices must be placed in designated racks.
- Skateboard racks are available at specific locations, while bike and scooter racks are located outside on the north side of IYH.
- Bikes and scooters are not allowed inside Academy facilities at any time.
- Unauthorized personal transportation devices found inside Academy facilities or not placed on the skateboard racks will be confiscated.
- Any personal transportation device found in the Academy facility that is not placed in its designated area will be immediately confiscated. To get your PTD back, there will be a $10 fee; PTDs will not be held and are subject to be donated and/or disposed of after 15 days.
Huddle Rooms
- Available for students enrolled in Academy classes at any time without reservations.
- Rooms may be occupied for a maximum of one (1) hour. See reception desk for access and assistance with managing room usage.
- Dry erase supplies may be obtained at the reception desk.
- NO food is allowed in these rooms at any time. Water, tea, and coffee are permitted.
- Any personal transportation device (PTD) found in the Academy facility that is not placed in its designated area will be immediately confiscated. To get your PTD back, there will be a $10 fee; PTDs will not be held and are subject to be donated and/or disposed of after 15 days.
Maintaining a Clean Environment
- Available for students enrolled in Academy classes at any time without reservations.
- Rooms may be occupied for a maximum of one (1) hour. See reception desk for access and assistance with managing room usage.

Classrooms
- IYH 210/211 & 212/213 classrooms are restricted for scheduled class use only.
- Food is not allowed in IYH classrooms, with few approved exceptions.
- Only IYA Students may use other designated classrooms after classes have ended for the day.
- Clean up work-related mess in classrooms and remove personal items.
- Failure to keep classrooms clean may result in loss of access or privileges.
- IYH classrooms are not available for extracurricular activities and/or meetings.
Computer Lab (IYH 111)
- No food or drinks in the computer area, unless beverages are in sealed containers.
- Computers are for Academy assignments only.
- Do not change computer settings or download software.
- Respect others by working quietly and turning volume to mute or using headphones.
- Log off from personal sites before leaving.
- Report non-operational computer equipment or cyberbullying incidents.
Prototype & Physical Computing Lab (IYH 110)
- Any fabrication (i.e. sanding, cutting, or painting) is prohibited in this room, this area is for prototype assembly only.
- No food or drinks in the Computing or Prototype area, unless beverages are in sealed containers.
- Computers are for Academy assignments only.
- Do not change computer settings or download software.
- Respect others by working quietly and turning volume to mute or using headphones.
- Clean up after yourself when using lab benches.
- Do not remove any equipment from the room or bring in any materials without prior permission.
- Log off from personal sites before leaving.
- Report non-operational computer equipment or cyberbullying incidents.
Student Lounge
- The lounge requires an Academy major access Student ID.
- Use the lounge without causing disturbance and abide by the University Student Conduct Code.
- Clean up trash and personal items.
- Respect furniture and property, report any damage or issues.
- Alcohol, Smoking or E-cigs are prohibited.
Computer Lounge
- No food or drinks in the computer area.
- Computers are for Academy assignments only.
- Do not change computer settings or download software.
- Respect others by working quietly and turning volume to mute or using headphones.
- Log off from personal sites before leaving.
- Report non-operational computer equipment or cyberbullying incidents.
Locker Room
- IYH Lockers are available to specific Academy classes.
- Secure lockers with assigned locks at all times.
- Do not store prohibited items in lockers.
- No food or personal transportation devices allowed in the locker room or in the locker.
- Report damage or physical problems with lockers.
- Remove all projects and personal materials by the end of each semester; any items left behind will be disposed of the following day.
Usage and Maintenance of Lockers
- Prohibited items include flammable materials, dangerous chemicals, explosives, weapons, and illegal or controlled substances.
- No alterations, decorations, or removal of locker components allowed.
- Students are responsible for clearing out lockers at the end of each semester.
- Failure to comply with policies may result in cancellation of locker privileges, fines, and penalties.
Creator Studio
Who has access to the IYH Creator Studio?
- ACAD/MSIDBT students: Access upon completion of Academy-required safety training
- Minors/Non-Majors in Academy classes or labs requiring the Creator Studio: Access upon completing the safety training.
- All students accessing AND using the creator studio must read, sign, and acknowledge the Student Handbook except for facility-approved tours.
Tour Guests Requirements:
For your safety:
- Everyone must wear eye protection; safety glasses will be provided.
- Avoid touching tools and equipment.
- Do not use headphones or devices that interfere with hearing.
- No open-toed shoes, loose-fitting clothing, or loose hair near machines
- Remove jewelry, neckties, or other potentially hazardous apparel.
Extended Reality
- The XR Lab (IYH 108) is open to Academy majors, minors, and students enrolled in relevant classes each semester.
- To check out equipment, bring your USC ID to IYH 108.
- Equipment must be returned within 24 hours of checkout. Failure to return equipment on time may result in the loss of equipment check-out privileges.
- Equipment must be returned in working condition. Returning damaged equipment will result in repair/replacement fees.
- No food or beverages are allowed in the XR Lab at any time.
- Priority for studio reservations will be given to faculty and classes using it for instructional purposes.
- Guidelines are subject to change.
Podcast Studio Guidelines
- The Podcast Studio is available to Academy majors, minors, and students enrolled in relevant classes each semester. For access, contact iyaxr@usc.edu or visit IYH 108.
- No food or beverages are allowed in the Podcast Studio at any time.
- Priority for studio reservations will be given to faculty and classes using it for instructional purposes.
- Guidelines are subject to change.
